Your dancer might be looking for a new experience this summer. Here are a few exciting options to consider. Some are only offered during the summer!
Lyrical
Combining elements of ballet and jazz techniques, lyrical dance allows you to express yourself with inspirational movement through lyrics. Multiple levels are offered.
Mini Lyrical (appropriate for Jazz/Ballet I)
Lyrical I (appropriate for Jazz/Ballet II)
Lyrical II (appropriate for Jazz/Ballet III)
Lyrical III (appropriate for Jazz/Ballet level IV and up)
* Lyrical classes must be taken with concurrent appropriate jazz/ballet technique class
Musical Theater Dance
Teen Musical Theater (ages 12 & up)
Learn choreography and combinations inspired by Broadway shows while focusing on performance technique. Work on basic steps and styles to enhance your dance background at an audition.
Conditioning
Appropriate for levels II and up
Stretching, strengthening, Pilates-based exercises, yoga-inspired exercises, and cardiovascular endurance will be covered over 8 weeks. A good compliment to a strong jazz/ballet background, or a way to work on increasing flexibility and core strength over the summer
*Conditioning must be taken pre/post appropriate technique class
Variations
Learn repertoire from famous works from classical ballets. Past variations have been learned from such ballets as Swan Lake, La Bayadaire, and Paquita from Don Quixote.
Must be taken with the preceding ballet technique class
Appropriate for students in Pointe B, C
Character/Pointe A
Strongly recommended for Ballet II and III students
A great elective addition to a ballet class for younger dancers!
Half of class will focus on pointe work and strength, other half will be like a Variations class for younger dancers, working on repertoire (choreography) more than technique. Emphasis on performance and presentation, learning children’s roles from or inspired by classical ballets.
* Must be taken with a concurrent ballet technique class. Strongly recommended for Ballet II and III students.
Turns and Leaps
Practice and learn to execute elements such as (but not limited to) fouette turns, pirouettes, arabesque turns, attitude turns, switch leaps, leaps, second leaps, turning switch leaps, axle turns, switch second leaps.
Prior dance background required.
* Appropriate for Jazz III and up
* Turns and Leaps must be taken following the appropriate technique class
Poms Drills & Skills
Learn and practice skills required of poms teams like athletic jumps and turns. Execute sharp and precise movements to the hottest music. Each class will consist of a warm up, stretching, conditioning, and then drill skills like toe touches, switch leaps, etc. and work on a routine. This is a great chance for students to hone the execution of skills they have been struggling with or need a little more practice with a teacher that has extensive poms experience!
Pilates
Bring your own mat, bare feet, and wear comfortable clothing for movement and sweat! Pilates is a system of exercises developed in the 1930s by Joseph Pilates. Principles include mind-body awareness, suppleness of the spine, strengthening core postural muscles to keep the body balanced and support for the spine. Teaches awareness of breath and alignment of the spine.
Jessie is certified by Pilates Chicago and by the Pilates Method Alliance.
Zumba! ®
The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. The goal is simple: We want you to want to work out, to love working out, to get hooked. Zumba® Fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exciting hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!
Please wear comfortable, breathable workout clothes and tennis shoes. Cross trainers are preferred because they cushion for lateral movement rather than front to back movement like a running shoe. They should bring water and even a towel if they so desire. Our instructor, Miss Julie has an ACE Group Fitness Instructor certification along with special certifications in Zumba Basics 1 and 2, Hip Hop Hustle, and PiYo.
* Appropriate for all, but recommended ages 12 & up
Explore Core Alignment
This class will explore personal misalignments and movement patterns. We will explore personal postural misalignments, and create individualized stretch and strengthening routines to assist in conditioning the body to perform in an optimal way. We will also explore the anatomy of core muscles… what are they anyway? Where are they and how do they work? Explore turn out, work on joint stability and finding a balance between strength and flexibility. Learn to work smarter inside your body and find the dynamic power that exists at your core!!
* Appropriate for Levels III & up or Level II with instructor approval
