INTRODUCING OUR NEW DANCE DEPARTMENT PROGRAMMING!
2017-2018 Dance Department Program Descriptions
Our Children’s Program is the foundation for ALL of our students.
- Beginning with Creative Movement, your child will explore the many aspects of dance in a nurturing and caring environment. As they progress, they will take these concepts further and be introduced to a more formal dance class structure. They will gain added focus, strength, musicality and body awareness within each style of dance. No matter the path they choose, your student will have a great start in their dance studies!
At age eight, there are two Programs offered, each having a specific technical focus for your student.
Both Programs share the Core Values and Mission Statement of The School of Performing Arts.
Both Programs will maintain a high standard of excellence and work toward performance opportunities specific to your child’s focus.
Both Programs will have individual and collaborative performance opportunities and strive to offer our community the very best in dance education.
Our Open/Contemporary Program is for the student interested in a well-rounded dance education experience.
- The program hopes to inspire creativity and passion in dancers ages 8 and up, while continuing with the necessary technical work that all dancers must pursue to achieve proficiency in any dance vocabulary. The student will be offered classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Lyrical. The student will have numerous performance opportunities including the Dance Ensemble/Competition Dance (by audition only), the annual Dance Concert (for all students), the annual Nutcracker(by audition only), and the annual Spring Ballet(by audition only).
The Pre-Professional Program is for the student interested in a ballet focused dance education experience.
It offers the diverse training needed for creating a “ballet dancer of today”. The student will master the classical vocabulary while studying ballet technique, variations, pointe, partnering, character, repertoire, contemporary body conditioning and improvisation. The rigorous program will prepare your student to become members of A&A BALLET Conservatory and the Youth Company. Students will have numerous performance opportunities including various ballet festivals, and an annual required Nutcracker and Spring ballet (“The Sleeping Beauty”, “Cinderella”, “Pinocchio”, “Peter Pan”, “Coppelia”, “Snow Queen”).
