SPA's Special Needs Program: Spectrum

 

The School of Performing Arts is pleased to announce the development of several workshops in Music, Dance, Musical Theatre, and Visual Arts geared toward children with special needs.
   

Through creative arts, children with disabilities are encouraged to maximize their potential in a supportive setting to celebrate music, movement, theatre and fine arts. The use of music, dance and imagery through art allows the child an alternative path for self-exploration and communication. It is a process where they can discover themselves through any art form, to let go, express and release.
Your child will experiene
- Increased ability to move and with more ease and freedom
- Development of a deeper trust and respect for their body
- Increased self awareness, self confidence and, self discipline as well as team building
- Development of listening and concentration skills along with social skills
- Promotion of a sense of pride and achievement

SPECTRUM'S 2013 Spring Production: OKLAHOMA
"Oh What A Beautiful Morning"... Our 2012 Spring Production takes us out on the waving wheat plains of Oklahoma!
Grab your cowboy boots, bring your best YEE HAW, and join us for a whooping good time as we rehearse our own version
of the musical, OKLAHOMA! This heart warming classical piece of musical theatre provides wonderful opportunities for you
to sing and dance. No experience necessary. Come to rehearsals with water bottles, snacks, and comfortable foot wear.
Saturdays January 12 - April 13
11:30 - 1:30pm (Please bring a snack/lunch and water bottle to each class)
Dress Rehearsal: April 19 from 5:00 - 9:00pm in Studio D
Performances: April 20 from 10:30am and 1:30pm in Studio D
Tuition: $275 (can be paid in 2 installments due Jan. and Mar.) with Miss Heather, Miss Lynda, Miss Cindy and Miss Darby
There is also an exciting opportunity to help re-create pieces of Agnes de Mille's original choreography for the
OKLAHOMA Ballet - regardless of your role in the show, you may join these extra sessions:
January 12 - February 9 from 10:15 - 11:15am in the Sondheim Room
*Please note: We will be having publicity shots taken at the stables of Ready, Set, Ride Horse riding Facility
in Plainfield one afternoon after rehearsal. Times and date TBA. Please let us know if your child is allergic or has a fear of horses/hay/manure.

SPECTRUM CREATIVE BEGINNERS
Ages 3-5
Creative Movement Just for You!! An introduction to dance! Students learn basic ballet and tap movement while developing imagination,
memory, and general motor skills. Parachutes, balls, hula hoops, and other toys will be used to engage your child and develop hand-eye
coordination. This class is a great way to meet new friends and practice communication and social skills.
Tuition: $135 / 9 weeks
45 minutes / week - Room TBA
Mondays and Wednesdays 10:00-10:45am with Ms. Katy (KW)

ALL THAT JAZZ!!
Ages 9-99
SPECTRUM goes JAZZY with this exciting dance class. Techniques, routines, and the rhythms of jazz all come together
to teach balance, coordination, grace, and posture. There will be a class presentation at the end of each session.
Tuition: $120 / 8 weeks
1 hour / week - Sondheim Room
September 8 - October 27
Saturdays 9:30-10:30am with Ms. Darby (DS)

ACTING 101
Ages 9-99
We go to the core of acting with this class... theatre improv, games, trust exercises, and building the skills necessary to play
scenes and dialogue. Students will be put into acting teams according to age. Comedy and drama will be explored in class and
a short interactive demonstration will be given at the last class.
Tuition: $120 / 8 weeks
1 hour / week - Soundheim Room
September 8 - October 27
Saturdays 10:45-11:45am with Miss Lynda (LC) and Miss Heather (HH), Katy Wenger (KW)
