Artistic Director of Showchoirs
Nicholas Parker Janssen, a native of Springfield, IL, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a minor in Education from North Central College. While pursuing his education at North Central Mr. Janssen founded, directed and choreographed the City Starz! All-City Show Choir, a leadership program that ended after their 2004 finals performance at the SHOWSTOPPERS™ National Show Choir Invitational. Concurrently, Mr. Janssen was assistant director and choreographer of the Kids Inc. Community Choir who began their existence as the Dreamchoir for the National tour of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” While under his direction both nationally recognized ensembles earned numerous competitive awards including Grand Champions, Best Vocal Sound, Best Choreography, Best Instrumental Combo, Best Soloists, and Best Show Design.
Mr. Janssen has designed, choreographed and provided workshops to assist with show design, musical production and performance techniques across the nation. Specializing in motivational methods to enhance any music ensemble, Mr. Janssen is highly sought after as a clinician, adjudicator, choreographer, and guest conductor with many award-winning ensembles credited to his name.
Mr. Janssen is General Music Instructor and Director of Choral Activities at Peterson School in Naperville’s Indian Prairie School District 204, and directs the show choir program at the School of Performing Arts where he also serves as a musical theatre director and voice/piano instructor.
In the fall of 2007 Mr. Janssen will join the adjunct music faculty at North Central College as director of the NCC Express Show Choir.
