PRIVATE MUSIC INSTRUCTION

The Music Department at The School of Performing Arts inspires a lifelong Love of the arts through music education. SUZUKI METHOD MUSIC LESSONS

Lessons in: Violin, Viola, Cello & Piano

The Suzuki Method is based on the idea that all children can learn how to play a musical instrument. This “mother tongue” method, developed by Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki, approaches music study like language study. Students learn to play pieces immediately by using their ear, much like we copy and speak language as we hear it before we are able to read it. Rading music is slowly implemented into Suzuki curriculum over time. Parent involvement is an important aspect of Suzuki lessons, and parents should expect to attend and participate in lessons. Parents also assist with home practice. Suzuki students meet for a weekly lesson with their teacher to focus on technique and repertoire, and they also attend a weekly group class with other Suzuki students to work on review and ensemble.
