PERFORMING ENSEMBLES

What is a music ensemble? Stemming from the French word ensemblée meaning “together, or at the same time”, the term refers to any group of musicians playing together with a wide variety of instrumentation ranging from string quartets and orchestras to rock bands and vocal groups. The School of Performing Arts Youth Musicians Ensembles program is tailored to give students an intensive and specialized education to hone active listening skills, intonation and technique, and broaden repertoire and on-stage presence. Students will work with their teacher to find their best ensemble pairing. String trios, piano and voice duets, violin and piano duos, and two piano groups are all examples of ensembles for this program, although all are welcome to suggest their own creative ideas! Students will train with a professional coach from the SPA faculty and showcase their hard work through performances at area institutions. Students will learn to be independent and self-reliant in rehearsals, orchestral settings, accompaniment gigs, or on stage for solo performances through chamber music.
