Lane Alexander

Lane Alexander is an internationally acclaimed tap dancer, choreographer and teacher. Mr. Alexander co-founded and directs the worlds largest annual festival of tap and percussive dance – the Chicago Human Rhythm Project and is currently on the faculty of Columbia College.

Lane toured as a Principal and Soloist with Especially Tap Chicago, Austin On Tap and the National Tap Dance Company of Canada's He was commissioned by the Chicago Sinfonietta to choreograph and perform the Fortieth Anniversary of Morton Gould’s TAP DANCE CONCERTO - a performance hailed as “virtuoso” - and performed the Concerto at Carnegie Hall as part of a tribute to the late Maestro Gould. He most recently performed the Concerto with the Colorado, Long Beach and Chatauqua Symphony Orchestras.

Lane has received numerous choreographic grants, awards, and fellowships. He has choreographed some of the great American musicals including the Second National Tour of The Tap Dance Kid. as well as Oklahoma, Mame, The Music Man, and 42nd Street. His choreography can also be seen on companies throughout the U.S. including Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Especially Tap Chicago, Keane Sense of Rhythm, numerous regional companies, solo artists, and student companies at Northwestern University, Northeastern Illinois University, the University of Nevada/Las Vegas, and Stephens College.

Alexander was featured in the motion picture Outtakes, choreographed and performed for the television series The Untouchables, and appeared on television programs in Italy, France, China, Peru and Canada. Lane taught for eight years at Lou Conte Dance Studio (official school of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago), and five years at Gus Giordano Dance Center. He teaches intensive workshops. residencies, and master classes throughout the United States as well as Asia, South America. Canada. Europe.

Lane has appeared with such greats as Gregory Hines, the Nicholas Brothers, Cholly Atkins, Prince Spencer, Peg Leg Bates, Jimmy Slyde, Savion Glover,Brenda Bufalino, Dianne Walker, Sam Weber, Luke Cresswell among others.

Lane currently serves on the Chicago Dance Coalition Board of Directors.
